Dust trails: not expected and not observed

1994: first outburst, but no observations of me...

No observations done this year due to bad weather. I remember a phonecall from Casper ter Kuile in the evening of 17 november 1994. Casper told me that until that moment there was not an outburst of Leonids observed. So we were somewhat disappointed that nothing was happening this year. However, next day Casper called again and he told me enthousiastic that the Leonids had an outburst last night (17/18 november). Peter Jenniskens witnessed this first Leonids outburst with ZHR's up to 75 and many bright ones [1].
I also remember that after the call of Casper I was walking with the dogs and I was really thrilled and excited about this news. Many plans and expeditions were made after this first outburst of the Leonids. Read about this expeditions on my other Leonid pages, see the links at the right side of this website. I was lucky to see al big outbursts in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002 (ok, the last one throught the clouds) and also the smaller outbursts in 1995, 1996, 1997, 2003 and 2006.
