The year 2012 in images and words
The year 2012 was in terms of observing meteors not a good one. Many observing sessions were interrupted or ended by clouds and fog. No foreign activities this year, the planned Geminid campaign abroad could not proceed. This is the first year since 2007 that I have less than 100 hours effective observing time. The Perseids maximum was fortunately almost entirely clear in the Netherlands. For a short report of the Perseids 2012 campaign click here. The beautiful -7 kappa Cygnide fireball that I observed visually on 18 august is not photographed with my all sky camera. This by a inoperative sectormotor whose cover sheet just stood still above the lens... Murphy's Law....

Since 15 March 2012 an all sky camera operates from Ermelo/Harderwijk region. The camera is installed on the flat roof of my dormer. This requires a hatch which was placed in august 2011. Until now (14-1-2013) there are over 20 bright meteors recorded with this camera. The brightest meteors were a magnitude -6 Anti Helion fireball on April 1 and a sporadic fireball of magnitude -8 on 3 November .
And since 18 August there is also a CAMS station (under number 351) active in Ermelo. This is a WATEC 902H camera in a housing which is aimed at a point 80 km above Kleve ( Germany ) . At the same point a second WATEC camera (station
311 located at Gronau, Germany) is aimed to recording simultaneously meteors. Many dozens of meteors have been simultaneously recorded and calculated using the CAMS software.
