The year 2002 in images and words
This year I moved to a larger house in Ermelo. The disadvantage of my new home was a lamppost near my backyard. So the few times that I observe from my backyard I throw a box or blanket over the lamp. A few hundred meters away lies a moor called Groevenbeekse Heide. At this location I observe meteors. Unfortunately, the weather in the Netherlands in 2002 was very bad. So a few observable hours in 2002.
The Perseid campaign during the night 12/13 August was the last one from Biddinghuizen. It was also the last action of the Delphinus team.
I wanted to observe the expected Leonidstorm (caused by a dusttrail formed by comet 55P/Tempel-Tuttle in 1767) from Moncarapacho , Portugal. I was there for a week with Peter Bus, Jaap van ' t Leven and Olga van Mil. Only one night I could observe meteors : 15/16 november. The night of the meteor storm was poisened with all kinds of weather: first thick fog , rain and much later lightning and cirrus. Al of this in highly variable rates. And finally an incoming cold front. Yet I saw sharply rising numbers in the short bright periods. I observed still 75 Leonids between the clouds. For a report click here.
