The year 1997 in images and words
Overall 1997 was a very good year. In the spring Comet C/1995 O1 Hale- Bopp put on a nice show. This bright comet was visible for month's with the naked eye.

The Perseid campaign was a huge success: we had 9 (yes NINE) clear nights in a row. The nights 10/11 and 11/12 August were extremely clear and yielded large numbers of meteors. It was the best campaign ever from this location (Biddinghuizen Netherlands).

The peak of the expected Leonid outburst was over America, so in Europe we only observed the ascending and descending activity. There was also a lot of moonlight, so no expeditions are organised and hoping the weather would be good from our home. Luckily the weather coöperate nicely and the Leonids could be observed from the Netherlands. Both nights were (partly) clear. Activity of the Leonid outburst came from the filament structure of Comet 55P/Tempel-Tuttle.

Picture 4: the Leonid campaign was the last action for this camerabattery...

Much of the year I was preparing myself for the Sino Dutch Leonid Expedition 1998. There was a lot of money needed and so I worked many extra hours for getting the money together.
