The year 1985 in images and words
Another very good year. Despite that slightly less was observed compared to the previous year, many more meteors were seen. In February this year, we could observe for the first time extensive, often under very cold conditions when the temperature sometimes dropped to -12 degrees Celsius.

Picture 1: during the traditional DMS symposium in Bussloo we introduced our new camera array, consisting of three Canon AV1 camera's and Canon FD 24 mm F 2.8 or Canon FD 50 mm F 1.4 lenses. It runs automaticly during the night. Koen Miskotte and Richard Buijs give explanation to a young Peter Jenniskens.

Picture 2: our new equipment.

Picture 3: our team Delphinus exist exact 5 years, time for a celebration, a huge cake made by Koen...

The Perseids were again observed at the holiday observatory of Dany Cardoen and Arlette Steenmans. Between 6 and 22 August, Robert Haas, Arjen Grinwis (both between 6 and 15 August ), Bauke Rispens and Koen Miskotte observed the Perseids. Almost every night the sky was clear and that resulted in nearly 7000 observed meteors! We observed the Perseids from the flat roof of the building where the 1 meter telescope Dany would rise. The dome was not finished, so we had it a perfect all- sky view, because the building was built on a hill .

Picture 4: Puimichel anno 1985.

Picture 5: kappa Cygnid fireball with a flare of magnitude -5. No rotating shutter was used!

Picture 6: Belgian observers Erik Bredael and Paul Roggemans with some JVS members.

Picture 7: the big -10 sporadic fireball of August 13, 1985.

I was able to observe for 80 hours during that period in Puimichel resulting in over 2400 meteors, a still unmatched record of my Perseid campaigns. The best was a sporadic -10 fireball that briefly colored the sky blueish! This fireball was captured with my Canon T70 and a Canon FD 5.6/7.5 mm lens.
October also provided some clear nights around the Orionid maximum. I observed them from the water tower. Overall, in the Netherlands in 1985 the weather was generally quite moderate.
